July is a weird month. It’s hot, and all throughout Spring we’ve been drilling into you that it’s time to plant warm-season veggies. But around now an interesting thing happens. While we can still plant warm-season veggies from seed like lima beans, corn, okra, pumpkins, summer squash and winter squash… it’s also time to start planning and planting your Fall garden!

This July, start the following seed indoors: broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower. And outside in the garden, direct seed parsnips and rutabaga. And in August, it’ll be time to plant a whole bunch more cool-season stuff: beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, swiss chard, collards, endive, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, mustard, parsnips, potatoes, and rutabaga. Then boom, it’s Fall and we’re still planting all this Fall/Winter goodness from seed and starts!
